Jan Beermann
PhD student
Jan Beermann is a PhD candidate at the Environmental Policy Research Centre (FFU) of the Freie Universität Berlin. He was awarded a PhD scholarship from Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (German Environmental Foundation). Jan Beermann focuses his PhD on joint low carbon projects by German and Indian cities and explores the conditions for success and failure in climate policy learning. He also investigates the role international development agencies and other donors play as brokers for urban knowledge exchange.
Between 2007 and 2010 Jan Beermann worked as a project teacher at the Berlin Technical University's Energy Seminar where he educated students in interdisciplinary projects on energy and climate subjects. From October 2009 to March 2010 he participated in the Nagoya University Global Environmental Leaders Program (NUGELP) at Nagoya University, Japan.
As a member of the “German-Indian Sustainability and Climate Change Dialogue“(GISCCD), Jan Beermann has been actively involved in the research exchange between FU Berlin and TERI University Delhi. He has played an instrumental role in setting up the Indian-European Multi-Level Climate Governance Research Network and aims to further strengthen the role of young researchers in the network steering and activities.
